Phoebe Asiyo Kenyatta, is an AGYW (Adolescent Girl and Young Woman) from West Kanyamkago. She was enrolled in the program in November 2023. Being an orphan, she got married at a young age and faced a difficult life, often going days without food. This hardship contributed to domestic violence in her marriage.
Phoebe learned about the program at a nearby dispensary that served as a safe space, where she was connected to the DREAMS program and enrolled. She began attending sessions where she received financial capability training, which significantly transformed her lifestyle by enabling her to create an income-generating activity. Phoebe started running a small business, and later, she applied for business startup support, which helped her establish and stabilize her enterprise.
With the modest profits from her business, Phoebe has also ventured into vegetable production. This not only provides for her personal consumption but also allows her to sell produce within her community.
Phoebe and her family are now living a happy, violence-free
life. It is evident that when a woman is empowered, the
entire household benefits.
