“This program not only
provided me with critical
support but also offered me a role as an ambassador.”
At just 23 years old, my journey has been one of resilience, determination, and transformation. After completing my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2021, I was filled with hope and ambition. However, like many young adults, I faced the harsh realities of financial instability that threatened to derail my dreams.
In 2022, I enrolled at Kendege Technical Vocational College
(TVC) to pursue a certificate in Mechanical Engineering
Production. It was a step towards my dream career, but the path was not easy. To support myself financially, I found
myself in a situation that I never envisioned—engaging in transactional sex. This was a challenging chapter of my life, but I was determined to carve out a better future for myself.
Amidst the struggles, a beacon of hope emerged when I was enrolled in USAID’s Nuru ya Mtoto DREAMS program as an Adolescent Girl and Young Woman (AGYW). This program not only provided me with critical support but also offered me a role as an ambassador. This opportunity was lifechanging; it allowed me to advocate for other young
women while gaining invaluable experience and skills.
The support from the USAID Nuru ya Mtoto project was transformative. They paid for my vocational training fees for an entire year, alleviating the financial burden that had
weighed heavily on my shoulders. With this support, I was able to focus on my studies and excel in my mechanical
engineering program. Graduating with my certificate was a
proud moment, a testament to my hard work and the
support I received.
Today, I am employed as an Assistant Ward Coordinator at the same organization that believed in me when I needed it most. I am now in a position to give back and uplift others who find themselves in similar situations. My role allows me to mentor and support young women, helping them
navigate their challenges and pursue their dreams.
My journey has taught me that while obstacles may arise, they do not define us. With determination, support, and a
willingness to adapt, it is possible to overcome adversity
and achieve one’s goals. I am proud of the path I have taken and excited for what the future holds. My story is a
